:Brief Bio: My family moved to Pepperell from Lowell in 1964 when I was 11 years old. I graduated from NMRHS in 1970 and then earned three college degrees, two from UMass Amherst, B.A. European History (1974) and B.S.Geology (1976) and a MS Geology(1980) from W.V.U. My employment journey has taken me from working locally for my family's business (Middlesex Gas Company) Pepperell, MA, to a small engineering company (Fayette Engineering) in Uniontown, PA, to a large oil and gas corporation (Chevron U.S.A.) in New Orleans, LA. back to to my own restaurant franchise (Popeyes Fried Chicken) in Leominster, MA. Today I am the proud owner of Niklaus Painting and Construction Company Inc. in Pepperell, MA.
My son Niklaus is now 19 years old and is a sophomore business major at UMass Lowell and my wife Joyce has been my business partner for over 20 years.
Pepperell is a great town and I am personally eager to hear your story and how we can improve the quality of life for all our Town residents.
Town Government: I will always give thoughtful consideration to all issues and will work with all town departments, school district, businesses, community organizations and others to improve local services and control costs. As a member of the 2011-2017 Select Boards we balanced three straight budgets, funded three straight years of a 5 year Town wide Capital Plan, collected approximately $838,000.00 in owed back taxes thru a "Bulk Tax Lien Program", funded two consecutive years of $200,000.00 in "Other Post Employment Benefits Liability Trust Fund" (post retirement health insurance), designated a "Green Community" receiving over $400,000.00 in energy conservation grants, "Community Compact" Grant recipient of $25,000.00, Solar Energy Adviser Grant (Sol Smart), supported "Tax Incremental Financing" Agreements (TIF) for both Masy Systems and 1A Auto to stimulate economic growth, promote new jobs and increase business revenue town wide, supported local Meals Tax, Devens Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, New High School, New Town Charter, Pepperell Place (old "Bemis Bag" renovation project) and co-chaired a successful municipal coalition of 16 Towns in opposition to the Kinder Morgan Tennessee Gas Pipeline Northeast Extension Project that was planned for construction through Pepperell and neighboring communities.
Education and Patriotism: I am a strong supporter of a quality education for all our children and a very strong advocate for helping our seniors (my father is 93 and my mother is 91) as well as helping our active duty servicemen and women, reservist and veterans ( my father served in Belgium in World War II and my brother served in Vietnam). I truly believe that through education and patriotism we can build stronger communities and keep our country united.
Results Driven: Leaders not only create success, they continue success! I have gained valuable knowledge and experience over many years from both my business acumen and civic service positions and responsibilities.
I offer my creative perspective and initiative to take on the tasks at hand and pledge to set worthwhile goals and work diligently to present solutions to important issues for the betterment of all Town residents.
